Documentary Graphics
Willie
Laurence feature documentary about Willie O'Rea, the first Black NHL player. More information about the film here.
I crafted motion graphics, title and graphic templates, and photo treatments for the film which premiered at Hot Docs in 2019.
This documentary follows the amazing story of Willie's family from his great-grandfather's escape from slavery in 1779 to Willie's ascent to hockey's highest honor - induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 12, 2018. Willie's story transcends hockey - it is a journey in pursuit of opportunity to blaze new trails and inspire people of all races, both historic in its sweep and scope, and relevant to our current day.
Producer Bryant McBride and Director/Producer Laurence Mathieu-Leger, and a team comprised completely of minority and women filmmakers, have crafted a poignant, powerful story. They are supported by Executive Producers Ted Leonsis, Sheila Johnson, and Earl Stafford, as well as JP Morgan Chase, and are collaborating closely with The National Hockey League.
The Feeling of Being Watched
I created graphics and animation for Assia Boundaoui's 2018 feature documentary, The Feeling of Being Watched
Molly Crabapple crafted original illustrations for the film which screened at Tribeca Film Festival and was broadcast on PBS. In the Arab-American neighborhood outside of Chicago where director Assia Boundaoui grew up, most of her neighbors think they have been under surveillance for over a decade. While investigating their experiences, Assia uncovers tens of thousands of pages of FBI documents that prove her hometown was the subject of one of the largest counterterrorism investigations ever conducted in the U.S. before 9/11, code-named “Operation Vulgar Betrayal.”
